It’s the Thought That Counts
Story
This 3D short follows a nervous mouse named Ratthew who’s tired from his dead-end job. He wants to deliver a flower to his beautiful partner and remind them how much he cares. Sadly, fate had other plans for Ratthew. The story concludes with Ratthew pitifully offering his dishevelled gift, reminding us all that it is the thought that counts.
Process
This is my first project using Maya software. I started the process by storyboarding my concept and then developed a character design. I ended up changing some of the story beats, including the comedic climax. During the modeling stage of my project, I decided to enhance Ratthew’s overall character design by adding a jacket and hat.
Here you can see my process for lighting and modeling Ratthew’s home, as well as my process for modeling Ratthew’s body, clothes, and skeletal rig. While animating, I decided that it was necessary to add eyebrows in order to clarify some of his expressions.
